FLAMENCO DANCE CLASS FAQ
New to Flamenco?
I've never danced before, can I still take flamenco classes?
Absolutely! Flamenco welcomes people of all experience levels. Beginner classes focus on fundamental technique, footwork, and rhythm. Some classes do require students to have completed our Beginner/Introduction class or have equivalent experience. If you have never taken flamenco classes, please contact Lexi@flamencotulsa.com to help make sure you are placed in a class that is well suited for your level.
What should I bring to class?
A water bottle and shoes!
What clothes should I wear to my first class?
Comfort is key! For Adults: Wear clothes that allow for movement, like leggings or yoga pants and a leotard or fitted shirt. You can wear a flamenco skirt if you have one, but it's not required. For Girls in our Children's Classes: We recommend you purchase this black practice skirt and wear with a black leotard or wear a flamenco dress like this. Boys can wear comfortable pants and t-shirt for class.
Do I need special shoes?
Flamenco shoes have special nails for creating sound and are ideal for flamenco dance, but can be expensive. We recommend these black character shoes without taps for children and these black character shoes without taps for beginner adults. For experienced dancers who want to invest more in their flamenco shoes there are some good options online. Menkes Flamenco Shoes on Amazon is a good option. Gallardo is another good Spanish brand. The Senovilla brand is highly recommended. Male and Female Mexican folclorico shoes are also good substitutes.
For Beginners who do not yet have character or flamenco shoes, tennis shoes or leather-soled shoes will work until you are able to get dance shoes.

How big are the classes?
Class sizes can vary. Many classes are small, allowing for personalized attention from the instructor.
How often should I take classes and practice?
